The concept of “frame”, which has been introduced by Fillmore in his first papers on case grammar, is at the heart of the practical project of a dictionary of English built around networks of meanings: FrameNet. This concept relies on a strong hypothesis concerning the characterization of any linguistic meaning, but it has undergone many mutations. This operation aims to analyze precisely the consequences on the concept of “frame” of the transition from the case grammar to the semantics of the frames, and to try to characterize the consequences of this frame vision on the definition of the linguistic meaning .
